And this is Being a sysadmin, written , and concerning Web

'Just' persuade whoever is paying you to pay double. And to employ another administrator. Pay him double to.Only *then* most system administrators may have a slight chance at doing their job as they ought to.
I don't think I've ever hated being a sysadmin, but I do go through periods where I hate computers and users.
Why? Beeing a System Administrator is a nice job! :) Maybe you guys are not handling your job and skills very well, that makes you angry and sad. Go to school and learn your job, than probably you like it again.
I'm quite fond of being a sysadmin, but I admit there are certainly days where I wish I was a developer again instead :)
What's got you down?
I was once a sys admin, now I am a painter. I will trade you jobs. With time I've forgotten about disliking users, and systems. I would be willing to learn to dislike them again =).
So chin up, it is better than watching paint dry day in and day out.
sysadmining should be about playing with toys that cost more then you could afford on your own, in numbers you couldn't run at home without blowing the fuses. Moving a wiki isn't the fun stuff, the bits where a wrong key stroke could bring an entire company to a juddering halt, that the fun stuff :)
But what about those days when you get to use tools? Today I took apart a crate some servers came in with a hammer and power drill. There were manly moments, yes.
Do you think it's that you're a sysadmin at the wrong place? Or the field in general is wrong for you?
After wasting almost a whole day today I must say -- amen!
I believe some of you are labouring under the misapprehension that (a) being a sysadmin is my job and (b) I don't like my job. Neither is the case. The reason I hate being a sysadmin is that I'm a hacker; I don't like having to do sysadminnish things, and I was doing them all night. Hence the post of complaint. :)
I love being a sysadmin; hire me :)
Me too :(
