What a big telly you have, Grandma

In hardware acquisition news, I now have a big telly!

A massive telly, in fact. A 37” Evesham Alqemi S LCD TV.

Rumours that I only bought a 37″ one so that it was bigger than Bastian Nocera’s big telly will be treated with embarrassed foot-shuffling followed by a rigorous denial :)

  3. Now you can watch England’s complete demise in even more detail. I don’t know if you can make out the score, but it’s about 605 short.

  4. You seem to have mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about HDTV, I have to say. I don’t have Sky, nor am I getting it, Freeview won’t go HD for a while, and I’m perfectly happy with the quality of my picture now to be honest with you. Plus: it’s HD ready, whatever that means. I really don’t care about HD.

Davyd: yeah, yeah, I know, it’s horrific. God knows what’s happened to us out there. You can stop gloating now.

  5. I was so sure you’d get a bigger one than me ;)
37″ would have gone too much over the window ledge, so I got the 32″ one. That’s my excuse and I stick by it.

  6. Well, I’d have gone for the 42″ if it would fit in the TV unit thing we got from Ikea…

  7. HD Ready == It’s got HDMI in which makes it as good as any HDTV set you’re gonna find today, because all that intergrated tuner shit is bollocks :) More importantly you can buy DVI to HDMI converters to use it over the HDMI with a standard digital output video card.

What’s more interesting is the complete lack of proper sound-system it comes with. What’s this Nicam Digital Stereo bollocks? You’ll be telling us it’s black and white next….

  8. D: the next model up had virtual Dolby surround sound, and picture in picture. And the only other difference between the two was one hundred pounds. Maybe you think it’s reasonable to pay a hundred smackers for surround sound, but I don’t :)

Plus, fuck a bunch of HDMI, which as far as I can tell is a way of sticking DRM in the hardware…

  9. How much is 3meters in inches ? Get a projector and then you’ll not only send Bastien ‘en touche’ but you’ll also be able to transform it ! I honestly prefer to have the cinema effect with a projector, than with a *smaller* HDTV screen…
But then again, it’s your dough, you do what you want with it :)

  10. Edward: I thought about a projector, but my wife doesn’t like them, so it got vetoed…

  11. sil,

HDMI is good, while it can support DRM over the wire, that’s not why it’s good — it’s a single cable solution that carries all the data the TV needs, audio, etc included. And it’s pure digital, thus not subject to signal degrading. And, as I said, you can throw a PC Input into it, pretty much native \o/

lejt is the same about projectors….

And, yes, I do think £100 is a reasonable fee for that feature list you gave.
