Given there is something oddly wrong with bloglines today, I remembered this post of yours.

I think it is really time to actually do my grand aggregator idea. Thing is, it will probably only suit me, so I think it would help you if I wrote one, e.g. I never use that Keep New functionality in bloglines (although I have ideas for some very cool replacements).

My solution to running my own aggregator was to use my own program to pull the feeds in and blosxom to regenerate new ones. Although I wanted to merge feeds together rather than have a web-based reader it would work for that too.
rss2file is the program I wrote (in python, natch) to pull in the data.

The other problem with setting up an Asterisk server, or rather VoIP generally, is that until most of the people you phone have also got a VoIP phone (and I mean phone, not sat in front of their computer) you might as well not bother. If you want to speak to someone for free you could email them, IM them, use the inclusive minutes on your mobile, phone them from work etc etc etc. Even if you have got a headset plugged in to your computer – having to get up from what you’re doing, wander over to the computer and then spend the first five minutes saying “Is that any better?“, kind of takes the shine off that 5 pence you’ve so cleverly saved yourself.

I would dearly love a hardware VoIP phone, there’s a really sweet wi-fi one that looks just like a dect phone, and at about 100quid not beyond the reach of most hardcore nerds, just…. whats the point, who will I phone?

For a pretty good server side aggregator, check out Feed on Feeds, http://feedonfeeds.com/
