Google thinks I have a virus

I’m just about to write a post about GreaseMonkey for Stylish Scripting and I wanted to check if Simon had written about it there before. Best way to find that out? Well, I’d have thought a Google search for inurl:http://www.sitepoint.com/blog-post-view.php greasemonkey. And when I do that, I get this:

The text is:

We’re sorry…but we can’t process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected. We’ll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we’ll see you again on Google.

What’s up with that? Other Google searches work, and I consider it highly unlikely that my machine is infected with a virus or spyware.

  1. I get the same message using the above search. Weird one.

  2. I suspect it is a generic error for a specific type of search.

  4. If you strip the &start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 part from your search, it seems to work fine.

    Very odd, indeed.

  5. I knew it. I knew this would happen.

  9. its actually because google decided to stop the phpbb worm, and youre getting caught by the search they blocked

research the santy worm and how the worm used the inurl: with viewtopic.php searches

  10. its not a fucking bug

  11. “your god”: of course it’s a bug. I’m not a phpbb worm. Moreover, I wasn’t searching for viewtopic.php. Blocking uses of inurl that are nothing to do with the worm is a bug in the blocker.

  20. Hey ppl, Im also having problems with my google. When I try to access the page i get an error 404. However, If i use the search through a page which simply has an attached search i get a google error.

    It reads:

“The website you’ve just visited has tried to provide you with search results from Google. Unfortunately, the site violates our terms of service so your search could not be completed. If you would like to continue with your search…..”

The sad Thing is that my friend also had this problem and he got it removed, but now cant remember how so i can also. All he knows is that it is caused by a command in a word pad doc or something. If anyone can help, please comment. Many Thanks

  21. I just had the same problem by putting in ‘phpbb2′ in the search field of my toolbar in firefox. It doesn’t seem to happen anywhere else though.
