And this is What is a blog, written , and concerning Rants

Now, I hate the word “blog“. I go out of my way and contort sentences to avoid using it. “I run a weblog.” “Yeah, I posted that on my site.” “Which weblogging system do you use?” But I’m rapidly becoming convinced that it has two meanings anyway. You see, a blog is the website, yes? But each individual post also seems to be a blog. Does the verb mean “to post to a blog” or “to create a single post“? Bloody word, I hate it.

Each individual post seems to be a blog? Where have you heard or seen it used that way. And heh, when I wrote you yesterday about a comment on your “blog“, I thought, “Damn, is he one of those people who hates the word?” Apparently so.

I’ve heard lots of people use “blog” to mean a single post. I always considered it wrong, but you can’t fight popular usage.

I fear the next step, where “blog” becomes a generic term for “web site“.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who hates the word “blog“. I’ve stubbornly refused to use “blog” or “blogging” despite writing several weblog-format sites myself.

Sam: the specific thing that prompted the rant was Eric Lippert saying “That’s a subject for another blog though“, but I’ve seen it numerous places…

I just can’t imagine what could happen if someone says “I’m blogging on the interweb using vi” in front of you…

question?

Sorry to be er well stupid, but can ANYONE explain what a blog is in plain English please?
