OK, so yesterday I wrote the instructions for installing a private copy of Hula on Ubuntu warty. Today I’m here to say: it all works fine, except that you must run the server as root. I’m doing it with sudo, for testing, but that’s OK. It doesn’t work if you don’t run it as root.

mrben: at the moment none of it is functional :) It’s not handling real mail. It does receive mail OK by SMTP; I haven’t yet tried the IMAP interface (although I can’t see why it’d be a problem) and I haven’t set up more than one user.

One of the things I’m most interested in testing about Hula is, as you say, the calendaring; I can’t test it until I’ve got my own installation set up to receive mail, though, and I’m trying to work out how best to do that (since I don’t want to trust my real mail to it just yet).

OK - just to say that I installed it on a vanilla Debian Unstable box today.
Mail seems to work OK sending between the users on the same server – like Aq I haven’t done any ‘real’ mail with it yet. I tried to connect to an external IMAP server, but didn’t seem to have any joy, although connecting to the server from an IMAP client (Evolution) worked fine. I couldn’t seem to send mail externally, although that is probably an issue with the setup more than anything.
Calendaring also works well ‘locally’ and you can send/receive/accept/deny fine. Working from Evolution seemed to bring up a nice invite to accept, but it did not seem to process the acceptance at all.
I haven’t played with the address book yet.
