I have tried a number of Python IDEs on Windows and Linux – PyCrust/Py Al a Carte, Pythonwin, Eclipse, Eric3, etc.

I use the PyCrust shell a lot, but Py Al a Carte (the editor) was a bit flaky for my liking.

Eclipse, as said above, was a dog to install, and seemed like overkill for the kind of work I do.

If Eric3 was anything other than Qt based, I would probably use it. However, because it is Qt-based, I can’t use it freely on Windows.

Thus, I always seem to come back to gvim.
