So long, Nullsoft

I anticipate that Winamp will continue to limp along for a little while longer. With minor bug fixes and updates for some time to come. Over the long term, I anticipate Winamp’s identity will change to fit the goals of those at AOL who don’t really care what Winamp means to the millions of our loyal followers.
A sad day. Windows Media Player for everyone, it seems.

  1. I’ve been using v2.80 for few years now and just switched to v2.95, since it’s support reading of ID tags for plugins better…

I have never used 3.0 (too bloated) or 5.0 (I guess same, never installed it).

I don’t actually need any new version, what for? MP3s are here for years and they stay. Winamp v2.80/2.95 is stable, full of features I need, nicely skinned etc.

So who needs AOL? Just use this link to download stable verison of Winamp and delete those bloated (AOL) new versions:

  2. There’s always iTunes ;-)

  3. Doesn’t worry me either way: I use Rhythmbox. :) But yes, there’s iTunes for Windows people, I suppose…

  4. Actually, I have an iPod, but I hate iTunes. Bloated and not usable. I need simple interface such as Winamp.
