Microsoft sue goverment for using Free Software
Microsoft are apparently suing the guy responsible for the deployment of Free Software in Brazil, because the Brazilian government’s decision is wrong for the country. The online petition they’ve set up is in Portuguese, but it’s already collected 1300 signatures The Babelfish translation of the petition into English isn’t great, as machine translations never are, but it does contain the glorious, glorious phrase “The salesman of the mega-company-monopolista“. Now, I wonder which company that could be referring to?
I’m all for a free market in my country, but in this case Microsoft actions are bordering on the pathetic.
Anyway, there will be a public debate about the issue between a Microsoft representative and Sérgio Amadeu, the guy who’s being sued. It will be interesting to see what arguments Microsoft will concot after such a blunder.

It’s gratifying to see so many commenters. Perhaps you might all like to think in a bit more detail about the issues presented here. Microsoft weren’t suing people who had ripped off MS software for free, no. Instead, they were suing someone who decided to use software other than that written by Microsoft, because using non-Microsoft software is “bad for the country“. I don’t think that anyone can really believe that the only company capable of writing good software is Microsoft, can they? Look at Google; they aren’t owned by Microsoft, for example.
Microsoft are seeing Open Source software, also called Free Software, as a threat because it can’t be bought out of existence in the same way as paid-for software. You can find out more about Open Source and Free Software, including what it is, at the Open Source Initiative .

As a former employee of ‘‘freeware r us‘’ we got a number of threats from microsoft saying what we were doing was illegal! they closed us down in the end by saying ‘‘we used there codes in one programme‘’ even thou this was very untrue!

Well, I’m glad to tell you that we would all be using UNIX and Linux Operating Systems if Microsoft wasn’t around. UNIX is the ‘GRAND DADDY’ of the WHOLE pc business without it we would NOT have Windows.
Microsoft should infact sue themselves for selling software that has bugs and security holes in it!
