A sad move

I just don’t have enough time to work on Vellum. I hate that. So I’ve converted the back end of this site to PyBlosxom. Essentially, were I to rework Vellum’s plugin architecture it’d end up looking like PyBloxsom anyway.

Doesn’t mean I’m happy about having to abandon the project, though. I can hope it’s only temporary, but don’t hold your breath.

On the other hand, PyBloxsom is actually pretty neat. I had to throw together a whole big pile of plugins and special page flavours to make as days pass by keep going the way it was, but that’s OK. I’ll do a more decent writeup of everything I did (mpt-style permalinks! recent comments list! SSI in head.flavour files!) at some point. Just let me mourn my project for a bit first.

  1. Good. Now I don’t feel bad for migrating from Vellum to Pyblosxom a few months ago. :)

I’ve been working on a few plugins for Pyblosxom in the last days, now that I’m redesigning my site in english. I made a “colorizer” for Python code, and I’m now working on a search plugin using Lupy. Perhaps we could exchange some ideas.

  2. That’s a shame, Stuart.

I know how you’re feeling though; I’ve been unable to work on Finetto (my own backend system) for a fair while now. There’s a huge list of features that’s barely been touched since I added comments.

    Hope work resumes soon.

  3. Roberto: yep, I’m all up for that. I do need to write up the stuff I’ve done, and the Lupy thing sounds neat (I’ve been toying with using Lucene, but I don’t like the Java requirement).
Gary: thanks. It’s a sod, not having enough time, innit?

  4. Not having time is an absolute nightmare. During the summer I really messed around with code, got to explore lots of stuff I had been meaning to try, but never really got anything concrete out of it (apart from experience). Now that 3rd year has started, I finish uni at 4, come home and work until at least 11. The only time I have each day (consistently) is half an hour for lunch. Need far more time before I can even consider doing something for myself.

  5. Have you stopped pinging blo.gs, though?

  6. I haven’t installed the ping plugin for PyBlosxom yet because I need to understand all the xmlrpc stuff before I start using it. I did try to ping blo.gs manually but it threw an error, so I sent in a bug report :)
