Indeed. That was pretty high on my list, although it does make the setup part a bit more complex, since you have to add an akismet key. Cruciforum is designed so that to “upgrade” you can just drop a new cruciforum.php in place and it works, so I might add this later…

Wouldn’t it be possible to use a spamtool like spamassassin?
It would be in line with the user-interface simplicity and could block spam.

Pieter: it would be possible, but it makes setup hard. At the moment, setup is “drop this file in a folder on your web server”. If I have to add “and set up spamassassin”, then, well, it’ll be tough. I’ve toyed with the idea of allowing “plugins” for Cruciforum, but it’s kind of against its goal of being really simple…

How about a variant of KittenAuth? It’s quick and universally easy to solve, and could be scaled down to something as simple as “pick the 1-3 kittens from these three pictures.”

However, it’s not an accessible solution, for sight-limited users nor image-limited browsing, so it would have to be optional on a per forum basis.
